June 22, 2011 — Lavante Achieves SAS 70 Type II Certification;
Validates Controls and Data Security
Company Furthers its Data Security Strategy by Moving its Hosting to SAS 70 Data Center
San Jose, California. — June 22, 2011 — Lavante, the leading provider of on-demand recovery auditing and supplier information management solutions, today announced that it has successfully completed the SAS 70 Type II audit of its supplier management application, processes and controls. The certification validates that Lavante employs uniform and reliable operational controls to safeguard its customer data. Lavante also announced that it has moved its hosting to QTS, a SAS 70 compliant data center. This achievement further extends Lavante’s technology leadership in the industry.
Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70 is a widely-recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). It represents that a service organization has been through an in-depth audit of their control objectives and control activities, including controls over information technology and related processes.
Lavante recently completed a rigorous SAS 70 Type II audit of its SaaS (Software as a Service) supplier management solutions, where the audit assessed its infrastructure, processes, and controls to demonstrate that Lavante employs uniform and reliable operational controls that safeguard its customer data. The SEC’s Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 requires publicly held companies to submit proof that their service providers have measures in place to ensure a stable environment for their data. Lavante’s SAS 70 Type II certification provides this proof to customers.
Lavante further underscored its commitment to data security and protection by migrating its hosting to a leading U.S. SAS 70 data center that provides state-of-the art, secure, SAS 70 data center IT infrastructure. Although Lavante has always maintained the highest security and control of data, the new Type II certification along with the move to this new facility provides additional guarantees that customer data is secure. The SAS 70 Type II certification, coupled with the last month’s announcement of the company’s recently-awarded statement audit technology patent, further establishes Lavante as the industry’s technology leader.
“Lavante’s SAS 70 Type II Certification and the move to a SAS 70 compliant hosting facility underscores our commitment to providing the highest standards for data security. This third party validation gives our customers added peace of mind that Lavante has the most effective data controls and processes in place to protect their corporate information. Lavante will continue to lead the way in using the most secure and advanced technologies available to benefit our customers,” states Joe Flynn, founder and CEO, Lavante.
Jason Bush, Founder and Managing Director of Azul Partners and senior editor of Spend Matters provides more insight about the impact of SAS 70 certification and data security:
“In the wake of recent and growing data breaches and integrity challenges impacting both hosted consumer and business information, companies should be extremely careful when putting their trusted financial and supplier information in the cloud. At minimum, they should insure that their software providers and vendor hosting facilities meet certain control and security standards. A SAS 70 Type II audit with a passing compliance grade is a good starting point. Third-party vendors and hosting facilities that meet the rigor of SAS 70 Type II audits may even be more secure than an organization’s own data centers. Regardless, finance and procurement organizations should take data integrity and security more seriously than in the past and the rigor they apply internally should extend to their partners.”
