December 9, 2009 – IAPP Announces Accounts Payables Recognition Week Winners
Lavante sponsors seventh annual contest
Orlando, Florida – December 9, 2009. International Accounts Payable Professionals (IAPP) and Lavante today announced the winners of the 2009 IAPP Accounts Payable (AP) Recognition Week competition. Winners were selected from a record number of companies whose AP groups submitted entries for this year’s contest.
IAPP’s AP Recognition Week focuses attention on Accounts Payable professionals at companies across the United States and Canada. “As companies face budget cuts and downsizing, AP professionals are being forced to do more work with fewer resources,” says IAPP executive director Tom Bohn. “This year’s theme – “Celebrating the Power of AP” – tasked AP departments with illustrating, through essays, photos, and presentations, how they have been able to thrive in difficult times. This is a fun way to address a serious issue and it must have resonated because we received more submissions than ever this year.”
This year’s winners, Walmart, United Gas, and CEVA, will receive a free conference pass, courtesy of Lavante, to Fusion 2010. The submissions can be viewed on the IAPP web site.
“We are proud to sponsor IAPP’s seventh annual AP Recognition Week,” states Tom Flynn, vice president of Lavante. “This yearly competition always provides a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on the very deserving members of the AP community. We congratulate the winners.”
- Walmart, the world’s number one retailer, spent an entire week celebrating the power of Accounts Payable. Their week of activities included staff members dressing up as superheroes as well as visiting local high schools to discuss the importance of the Accounts Payable role in a corporation.
- Union Gas Limited, a Spectra Energy company and a distributor of natural gas to more than 1.3 million Canadian residents, dedicated their annual “Helping Hands in Action” event to AP Recognition week. This year the company made a cash donation, as well as sending members of the AP staff, to a local “Brain Injury Awareness” center.
- CEVA Logistics, a global leader in logistics, scheduled a weeks’ worth of activities to celebrate heroes in Accounts Payable. Activities included a visit from real life local heroes ― members of the Houston Fire Department.
Winners receive a free conference pass to IAPP Fusion, the AP industry’s premier event, scheduled for May 9-13, 2010, at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Resort in Dallas, Texas. Last year’s event, held in Orlando, Florida, showcased over 115 workshops and 98 service provider solutions. The 2010 event is forecast to be double the size.
